Graeme Vernon ARMCM, RIP

It is with much sadness that we announce the death of our Organist Emeritus.
Graeme was a much respected member of the Cathedral team.
He joined us around thirty five years ago as assistant to the then Music Director, the late Peter Smedley, to take over the Parish Mass and assist at the High Mass. In recent years, Graeme continued to play every Sunday at the 10am Mass, working with a small group of singers to provide a simple congregational sung Mass.
Graeme Vernon was educated in Nottingham before moving to Manchester where he studied organ at the Royal Manchester College of Music, gaining the ARMCM diploma. Whilst in Manchester he was Organist and Choirmaster at St Michael and all Angels, Lawton Moor, Wythenshaw, and later at the church of St Martin's, Marple Bridge, Cheshire.
Returning to Nottingham he joined the parish of St Augustine of Canterbury, New Basford as Organist and later Choirmaster, until the church closed and he was invited to Nottingham Cathedral.
Graeme will be sadly missed by all here at the Cathedral. Please remember him, his sister Gillian and all his friends in your prayers at this time.
May he now Rest in Peace.
