Go make disciples: where we begin

Parish

A look at the first year of our parish mission plan, and an invitation to read it in full.

Earlier this year, the Diocese of Nottingham launched its five-year mission plan, "Go make disciples". Built around three spiritual themes - Encounter, Discipleship and Mission-  it invites every parish to pause and prayerfully ask where the Lord is calling it: how are we helping people encounter God's love, how are we equipping them to witness to Christ in daily life, and what might our parish look like by 2030?

To begin, a group of our catechists and parishioners, including some who came into full communion this Easter, sat down together to look at where we are and what we might do next. It was an open and honest conversation, and we're grateful to everyone who took part.

For our first year, we've chosen three simple places to start:

  • Sons of Encouragement, a men's group meeting to pray and support one another.
  • Places of Welcome, a weekly morning of tea, company and friendship in the Cathedral hall.
  • Ongoing Formation, for those who have recently joined the Church and would like to go deeper.

None of this is finished. It's a beginning, and we'd love your thoughts as we go.
